Wrexham A.F.C. are living the dream right now. This proud Welsh club were playing non-league football three seasons ago. Now they will take their place in the Championship for the 2025/26 season. The ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been a roaring success and the betting odds suggest that their Premier League ambitions are entrenched in reality.

The Red Dragons finished second in League One last season to achieve automatic promotion. At the time of writing, they are joint-eighth favourites to win the Championship title at odds of 17.00. The seven teams regarded as more likely to finish top of the second flight are Ipswich, Southampton, Sheffield United, Birmingham City, Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Leicester City.

The squad has been continually upgraded as Wrexham have risen through the football pyramid, with fan favourite Paul Mullin having left The Racecourse this summer. Ryan Hardie, Danny Ward and Sam Dalby are some of the early arrivals and the former was something of a sharp-shooter for Plymouth Argyle last season.

Even so, perhaps Wrexham will simply consolidate after such a meteoric rise. As far as their promotion odds are concerned, the Welsh club are priced at 7.00 to go up whether this is automatic or through the play-offs. That implies a roughly 15% probability that they will achieve the ultimate aim, with much depending on the sort of player that they can attract.

If manager Phil Parkinson was offered a top-six finish right now, he would snap your hand off. The chance to go up through the Championship play-offs would be hugely exciting and there are odds of 3.75 that the north Wales outfit are able to finish sixth or higher. That is a greater than 25% chance of happening, although this is a competitive division against many clubs who are benefitting from parachute payments.

Indeed, Wrexham have to stay within the Financial Fair Play confines and perhaps the owners won’t break the bank in an attempt to chase the dream. As far as a top-half finish is concerned, this is something that is regarded as likely by the top betting sites. There’s a 64% chance that the Reds will wind up twelfth or higher in the final standings and that would represent a highly satisfactory outcome for a club who are in nosebleed territory.

There’s always the chance that Wrexham might find life tough going in the Championship. They weren’t always convincing in League One and were duking it out with Wycombe Wanderers for the second automatic promotion berth for much of the campaign. The relegation odds aren’t currently available although you’re likely to get odds bigger than 5.00 if you think they’ll go down next term.

Although Cardiff City were still relegated last season, there will be two Welsh clubs in the Championship next term. Wrexham and Swansea fans will be looking forward to the derbies that will take place, with the former strong favourites at 1.44 to finish above their rivals.
