Yama Deepam is celebrated on the day of Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi. Yama Deepam is the first day of Diwali celebration. On this auspicious day, devotees worship Lord Kuber, Mata Laxmi and Lord Dhanvantri. Yama Deepam is the day which is dedicated to worship Lord Yama, the God of death. This day holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Yama Deepam is celebrated on 13th day or Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. Yama Deepam has a great religious and spiritual significance in Hindu religion. This day is celebrated on the day of Dhanteras. This auspicious day is dedicated to Lord Yama, who is known as the God of death. Yama Deepam means lighting a diya for Lord Yama and seek blessings of the Lord.
Yama Deepam is the most popular ritual which is done to seek blessings of the Lord Yama and people perform this ritual specially in the evening time during Gaudhuli time or at the time of sunset. This festival is celebrated across the country with great devotion and reverence.

Yama Deepam 2024: Puja Rituals
On this auspicious festival of Dhanteras, people perform most popular ritual which is known as Yama Deepam. This ritual of offering a four faced diya to Lord Yama is performed during the Pradosh Kaal which occurs in the evening time or at the time of Gaudhuli. Devotees prepare a dough with wheat flour and make a four faced diya and place four cotton wicks on four sides and then fill it with mustard oil then light this in the south west direction. First they sprinkle some Gangajal where they want to place the diya outside home and then keep it there dedicated to Lord Yama. They seek forgiveness for all the sins which they might have committed in their life and done in the past birth. Then after that they prays for the well being and longevity of all the family members. While doing such activities, one must have deep faith and pure intentions.
It is believed that Lord Yama protects the devotees with longevity, well being and also give protection against all the evil energies. By performing this ritual one can get rid of premature death and people should perform this ritual on the day of Dhantrayodashi as this is the only day when devotees offer prayers to Lord Yama.
