NEW DELHI: India had only one bad day at the recently concluded ODI World Cup and unfortunately it came in the final that ended their 10-match winning streak after going down to Australia in the summit clash.

India's perennial problem of faltering in the finals came to the fore again and their agonising wait to win an ICC trophy continued. While India's defeat left the entire nation disappointed but former player Suresh Raina was buoyed by the performance of the team.

Raina is optimistic about the prospect of rectifying their performance in the upcoming edition of the tournament, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.

"We will see the Indian team doing well again because they know how to reach the latter stages of tournaments now," Raina said in his column for the ICC.

"It just takes a bit of time to understand how to manage those pressure situations, especially when you're at home.

"Sometimes when there's a lot of pressure you can lose your focus, and I think that's a lesson they will learn from this."

Raina also feels Australia skipper Pat Cummins's uncanny captaincy proved to be a major difference in the final between both the teams at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

"What swung the game in Australia's favour was Pat Cummins' captaincy. The way he brought Glenn Maxwell into the attack to get the wicket of Rohit Sharma with a brilliant catch from Travis Head was very smart. Adam Zampa was great too, as was Cummins himself in dismissing Virat Kohli. They outplayed India and were very solid in their planning," he said.
