Materials required

Here are the materials you require to build an item sorter in Minecraft:
  1. Chests
  2. Hoppers
  3. Redstone dust
  4. Redstone torches
  5. Repeaters
  6. Comparators
  7. Building Block
Steps of building the item sorter
Here is a step by step guide that you can follow to build an item sorter in Minecraft:
  1. Location - First, you need to pick a location that is close to your storage area for easier access.
  2. Arrangement of Chests - You need to subsequently arrange your chests in a row. However, if you require more space, you can also stack them. These chests are responsible for storing your sorted items
  3. Hoppers - Then, you need to place hoppers. You must attach each hopper to a chest, and these hoppers must face the chest as the items can move into them. Thereafter, you need to add a row of hoppers facing sideways on top as they can act as filters.
  4. Sorting System - The next step is to create a sorting system. In order to do that, you must place a row of building blocks behind the hoppers. Then, place comparators on those blocks, facing outwards from the hoppers.
  5. Redstone Components - Once you are done with the sorting system, place the Redstone Components. You need to start by placing Redstone Dust behind each comparator, then you need to place a block after the dust. Upon doing so, you need to place a Redstone torch below. After that, you need to add a row of blocks on top of these torches. The last phase of this step is to place repeaters facing those blocks with torches.
  6. Filter items - As the sixth step, add filter items in the top hoppers. Renamed items that will never enter your system can be used(such as “filter 1”). After that, you must fill the first four slots with a filter item each. Following that, you can place any 41 of the items you wish to sort in the last slot.
  7. Testing - Lastly, you will have to test the Item Sorter. In order to do this, you can drop some items into your system and check if they go into the respective slots, provided the sorter was set up properly. It should work automatically.
This system of building an item sorter using Redtone Mechanics helps you greatly in organizing your storage and accessing it as per your convenience. It rids you of the efforts of the lengthy process of organizing your storage manually. Make your game time in Minecraft a lot more simpler by building one.
