NEW DELHI: Liverpool continued their unbeaten streak this season by defeating Leicester 3-1 after conceding an early goal, marking the fifth time in eight games that they've trailed 1-0. Kasey McAteer scored for Leicester just three minutes into the match, becoming the second team to take an early lead at Anfield this season.
Despite Leicester's early goal, they only managed one shot on target during the game, while Liverpool responded with a total of 29 goal attempts, including 10 on target.
Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Diogo Jota scored the three goals for Liverpool.
Szoboszlai's goal, in particular, stood out as the highlight of the match, as he rifled a shot from 20 meters that struck the underside of the crossbar before finding the net in the 70th minute.
In other League Cup matches, Arsenal and Chelsea both secured victories against Premier League opponents. Arsenal won 1-0 against Brentford thanks to a goal from Reiss Nelson in the eighth minute, which capitalized on poor passing in Brentford's defence.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea fielded three players, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, and Moises Caicedo, who were signed from Brighton, in a 1-0 win over their former club.
Nicolas Jackson scored in the 50th minute, marking his second goal of the season.
Everton avenged their earlier 4-0 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League by winning 2-1 at Villa Park. James Garner scored in the 15th minute, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin added another goal in the 50th minute for Everton, who secured their second away win in five days.
Fulham and Bournemouth also secured routine wins at home against second-tier teams. Fulham's victory over Norwich was built on Carlos Vinícius's goal in the 12th minute, while Bournemouth scored twice in a three-minute spell early in the second half to beat Stoke 2-0.
West Ham needed a 70th-minute goal by Tomas Soucek to secure a 1-0 win against third-tier Lincoln.
In the highest-scoring game of the night, Blackburn defeated Cardiff 5-2 in a clash between second-tier teams.
The fourth-round draw for the League Cup featured several all-Premier League matchups, including Liverpool facing Bournemouth, Arsenal taking on West Ham, and Chelsea hosting Blackburn. Everton coach Sean Dyche's team will face his former club Burnley, while Fulham is set to play against the improving second-tier side Ipswich.
Fourth-tier Mansfield will host third-tier Port Vale, guaranteeing the presence of at least one underdog in the quarterfinals. Third-tier Exeter will host second-tier Middlesbrough.
