As Adrian Newey is set to officially join Aston Martin on March 3, 2025 the F1 team principal Andy Cowell has guaranteed that the team will give Newey an atmosphere where his imagination can thrive. Newey, perhaps the most dominant designer in Formula 1, will join the team as a managing technical partner as it builds on its charge to be a title runner. His role is part of an overall management shake-up that has also included Cowell being promoted to the position of team principal and Mike Krack transitioning into a trackside role.

Aston Martin’s vision of adding Adrian Newey

Newey will likely influence Aston Martin's 2026 car significantly, as opposed to the new AMR25 that has already been introduced. Describing Newey to Sky Sports News, Cowell highlighted how important it is to give Newey the freedom to let his creativity shine and excel at his best.
“Adrian is very competitive, he’s very creative, and as an organization we need to harness that, not stifle it,” Cowell explained. “All the people that operate in the creative area, how do we provide an amazing environment, both personally as you come to work, as you work in the building with other people?”
Aston Martin has spent sizeable money in recent years under billionaire Lawrence Stroll's leadership. The British company has renovated its headquarters and added to its technical staff, recruiting former Ferrari engineer Enrico Cardille to join Newey and Cowell. All this is done to turn the brand of luxury sports car into a championship-winning business.
“We’re working exceptionally hard to make the racing car our prime focus, to work together in a collaborative way, a high-performance team,” Cowell said.

The dream: Aston Martin chasing F1 glory

Cowell outlined Aston Martin’s aspirations, acknowledging the challenges but maintaining an ambitious outlook. “We believe by working like that we’ll get quicker and quicker. We want to win races, we want to win championships, we would like our drivers to be first and second in the drivers’ championship, and we’d love to win back-to-back championships. That’s the dream, to have the racing green car to see the chequered flag first, and to do it race after race after race," Cowell explained, “But we’re realistic, we understand that our opponents are exceptionally strong and therefore we need to set tough targets, both in terms of performance and the time that we achieve them, and not leave any gaps, not have any regrets as we go forward.”

While Adrian Newey's formal inclusion at Aston Martin is the ground-up 2026 F1 car, boss Andy Cowell is certain his influence will be immediately apparent in the "opening days" since joining. Newey officially takes up residence on a drawing board at Silverstone headquarters on March 3rd, 2025 the design icon following in the footsteps of the team shortly after his last Red Bull project, the RB20, claimed the 2024 Drivers' title. Thanks to Newey's know-how and the expansion of Aston Martin's infrastructure, the team is looking to become a serious challenger for championships to come.
