KOLKATA:
Khokan Mollah
made it a memorable week for himself as he held his nerve to clinch the amateur category of the
Shillong Amateur 2019
by a solitary stroke at the Shillong Club on Saturday. Khokan Mollah — who had hit 72 on Saturday — carded 77 in the final round on Sunday to pip
Samridh Sen
, who was also in the hunt for his second crown of the season.
The tournament is part of the second edition of the IGU
Eastern India Amateur Feeder Tour
which has 12 events under its umbrella. The Shillong Amateur is the ninth event on the Tour this year.
The tournament has five categories: amateur, mid-amateur, senior, super senior and ladies. There are also special categories for junior golfers of 18 and nine holes, respectively.
In the mid-amateur category, KI Singh and Batkupar Synrem finished the tournament with an identical overall total of 159. Thus, there was a need of a play-off to decide the winner and KI Singh held off Batkupar Synrem to clinch the title.
Kalyan Sahu claimed the crown in the senior category. He hit 85 in the final round for an overall total of 170 and thereby finished two shots ahead of runner-up Tony Curtis Lyngdoh, who shot 84 on Sunday. In the super-senior section, Anil Pargal cruised to victory by 15 shots after carding one-under 69 on Sunday.
