Alex Bregman, one of the most talented players in Major League Baseball, has been in the news lately due to his status as a free agent. Earlier, it was reported that Alex Bregman had rejected a six year deal with the Houston Astros for a whopping $156 million. Now, according to New York Post’s sportscaster Jon Heyman’s post on X, a deal is still being worked out for the star player by the Houston Astros.
Alex Bregman Rejected Houston Astros Because He Was Getting A Salary Cut, According To Jon Heyman
According to a recent post made by Jon Heyman, he has revealed that the Houston Astros are still trying their best to make Alex Bregman come back to his former team. Apparently, Alex Bregman’s former team, the Houston Astros, is “willing to do (at least) $156M, 6 yrs” but Alex turned it down since it is a huge cut from a whopping $28.5 million that he was previously receiving.
With a $156 million salary for 6 years, Alex Bregman was supposed to receive $26 million per season as opposed to his previous salary of $28.5 million.
But Jon Heyman has also revealed that apart from the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers, there is another team also who is very interested to offer a fair deal to the star player. While Jon Heyman has not revealed the team’s name, according to him, this team is offering him a deal for six years with an option to opt out in the first year. The salary offered by this new team is not known yet.
Fans Slam Alex Bregman For His Decision
Jon Heyman’s post on Alex Bregman refusing Houston Astros’ deal because he would be getting $26 million as per their deal, has angered fans. A fan made a sarcastic comment that read as, “How is Alex supposed to feed his kids on only $26M a year? No wonder he’s holding out.”
Another fan echoed the same emotion and wrote, “Rich people’s problems & he’s going to enter a declining performance period of his career.”
However, there are fans who are now blaming Alex Bregman’s sports agency, the Boras Corporation, which is led by Scott Boras. A fan commented, “Another Boras client gonna end up with a cut salary”, while another fan wrote, That’s what u get when u hire @borascorp a greedy SOB in boras. I hope @ABREG_1 and Pete learned their lesson. Fire boras.”
Currently, Alex Bregman and Scott Boras have not issued an official statement about the situation with the Houston Astros. While some fans slam Alex Bregman for turning down his former team, many fans are also hopeful that he will ultimately return to the Houston Astros.
With Spring Training being just few weeks away, it remains interesting to watch Alex Bregman’s next move as fan believe he will make his way back to his former team, the Houston Astros, before the Spring Training begins.
