CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh boys
Karandeep Singh and Sachin Kumar claimed the boys under-12 and under-14 titles, respectively, in the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Tennis Sports Complex on Friday.
In a well-contested final between two budding players in under-12 category, CLTA's Karandeep Singh prevailed over Shree Krishna (Bihar) in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
From start, Karandeep played with confidence and aggression and it worked for him. Taking home ground advantage Karan played brilliantly even though there were a few tough games, he went for his shots and scored some good points. Karan played marvellously right from the startand put pressure on Krishna.
In under-14 category, another CLTA and CHART player Sachin Kumar, who is currently ranked fourth in India, won the title defeating Udayan Bhakar of Rajasthan in two sets 6-3, 6-2.
Continuing his good form, Sachin won the first set 6-3. In second set, he broke his very first gameand then broke Udayan twice and wraped up the match 6-2. Sachin did not even lose a single set in the entire tournament.
Second seeded Prabhuti Singhania of Maharashtra beat topseed Victoria Chahal of Haryana in three closely contested sets 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4 in the girls under-14 singles final.
Andhra Pradesh's Pranjala Yadlapalli won the girls under-12 title as she defeated Snehal Umesh Mane of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-1 in the final.
Darvesh, Dhruv win championship The father-son duo of Darvesh Kumar and Dhruv Kumar with a score of 81 won the first-ever family golf championship played at the Chandigarh Golf Club on Friday.
Ikrabhdeep Ghai and Prabhdeep Ghai, both brothers, also had the same score of 81 but finished runners-up since the winning team had a better back nine. Father and son HS Kang and JS Kang came second runners-up with a score of 83.
Brothers Tarundeep Chadha and Varundeep Chadha also had a score of 83 but finished 3rd runners-up since the 2nd runners-up team had a better back nine. A total of 42 players, 21 teams, teed off for a total of 18 holes on an alternate shot format played on gross score basis.
The winning team was given a golf shopping voucher worth Rs 5000, 1st runner-up team was given a voucher worth Rs.4000, 2nd runner-up team was awarded a voucher worth Rs 3000 and the third runner-up team received a voucher worth Rs 2000.
BP-XI beat West Zone by 56 runs Board President XI beat West Zone by 56 runs in the final of the Central Revenue Sports Board (CRSB) Invitation Cricket Tournament at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Batting first, Board President-XI made 194 for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Rohit Dahiya topscored with 81 runs. Rikin Chouhan made run-a-ball 47, while Rajesh Tabiyar made 33 runs in just 14 balls to post a realistic total.
