The
Dallas Mavericks could be without
Kyrie Irving for their upcoming showdown against the
Cleveland Cavaliers, as the star guard is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. This adds to the Mavericks’ growing list of injuries ahead of the highly anticipated game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Sunday, February 2, at 3:30 PM ET.
Dallas Mavericks’ injury report for February 2, 2025
Kyrie Irving’s questionable status is a significant concern for Dallas, given his role as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 24.3 points per game. His potential absence could put additional pressure on Luka Doncic and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks' roster to step up offensively. Alongside Irving, Daniel Gafford (ankle) and P.J. Washington (knee) are also questionable, while Dereck Lively (ankle), Dwight Powell (hip), and Anthony Davis (foot) have already been ruled out.

Despite their injuries, the Mavericks have maintained a competitive edge, boasting a 26-23 record and ranking 10th in the NBA in points per game (115.6). However, their defense remains a concern, allowing 112.7 points per contest (16th in the league). If Kyrie Irving is unable to suit up, Dallas will need to rely on Spencer Dinwiddie, Quentin Grimes, and other role players to fill the scoring gap.

Cleveland (39-9) is also dealing with injuries, but their depth has helped them maintain one of the best records in the league. Dean Wade (knee) and Isaac Okoro (shoulder) have been ruled out, while Caris LeVert (wrist) and Craig Porter Jr. (illness) are listed as questionable.
The Cavaliers, led by
Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, have been one of the most dominant teams this season. They rank second in the NBA in scoring (122.2 points per game) and boast a +488 scoring differential. Mitchell, who averages 23.9 points per game, will be a key factor in Cleveland’s offensive attack.
Given that both teams are battling ailments, Sunday's game may depend on whose club can overcome hardship the best. The
Dallas Mavericks will need a good showing from Doncic and his supporting group if Kyrie Irving is unable to play in order to compete with Cleveland's potent offence. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, will try to capitalise against Dallas' poor squad and maintain their supremacy at home.
