DURBAN: Embattled batsman Herschelle Gibbs will return to the South African One-day squad against Australia after completing his rehabilitation for alcohol abuse.
The 34-year-old, who was sent on a month-long rehabilitation after being dropped from the national team for breaking curfew in November, would be completing his programme in early January and was on Monday named in a 15-man squad for the five One-dayers and two Twenty20 matches against Australia.
Three new players were selected for the One-dayers - left-arm swing bowlers Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell and left-handed batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Cricket South Africa said in a statement.
Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini also returned to the One-day squad while the selectors decided to retain Hashim Amla, who has averaged 52.57 in his last nine innings.
Batsmen Ashwell Prince and Neil McKenzie, spinners Paul Harris and Robin Peterson and paceman Monde Zondeki will be returning home after the three-match Test series, which the Proteas currently lead 1-0.
