NEW DELHI: In a humorous twist on Rashard Mendenhall's recent suggestion of an All-Black vs. All-White bowl, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers took the idea to new heights, proposing a draft for the hypothetical matchup, with comedic legend
Dave Chappelle playing a central role.
During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers expressed his support for the concept, emphasizing the need to include Chappelle in the event.
The comedian's iconic "Chappelle Show" skit on the racial draft featured notable figures like
Tiger Woods, Colin Powell, and Wu-Tang Clan being drafted to various racial teams.
"I think just off the top of my head, spitballing, we need to have a draft and it has to involve Dave Chappelle," Rodgers declared. "We should have a draft because there’s a couple people that we’re not sure which team they’d be on, so we need to have a draft."
Former
NFL player Darius Butler chimed in, suggesting that the All-Black team should include Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel. Rodgers joked, "That depends if you’re first pick or not. We’ll see."
Mendenhall's original post on social media expressed frustration with "average white guys commenting on football," leading him to propose replacing the Pro Bowl with an All-Black vs. All-White bowl. While he later attempted to clarify his stance, Rodgers acknowledged the underlying sentiment.
"I’m better than ur goat," Mendenhall added, prompting Rodgers to interpret the message as a commentary on who is allowed to speak on football matters.
Houston Texans' J.J. Watt also joined in the banter on social media, envisioning challenges for the White team in guarding players like Tyreek Hill. Some users accused Watt of ignoring the issue of racism, prompting him to respond, "We don’t need to be offended by everything in the entire world. He said white guys can’t play football. I thought to myself ‘I’m a white guy. I’m very good at football’ and concluded that his statement had no validity."
