Did Madden ratings stop a trade for Jerry Jeudy?

The New York Jets have found themselves under the spotlight all year, and not for the reasons they’d hoped. While there have been fleeting moments suggesting a potential turnaround, it’s clear the drama continues to shadow the franchise, both on and off the field.

This week alone, the Jets have been at the center of controversy. First, Netflix dropped Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, offering a peek into the quarterback's spiritual journey at an ayahuasca retreat in Peru. Then, Rodgers engaged in a very public back-and-forth with ESPN’s Ryan Clark. But the real bombshell came courtesy of NFL insider Dianna Russini, whose report has sent shockwaves through Jets Nation.

In her exclusive for The Athletic, Russini revealed that former Jets GM Joe Douglas reportedly told the Denver Broncos that team owner Woody Johnson blocked a potential trade for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy because his Madden player rating wasn’t high enough. Yes, you read that right.

The report caught the attention of former Detroit Lions QB Dan Orlovsky, who took to X to weigh in, but stopped short of backing the claim. It’s another bizarre chapter in a season already rife with controversy. The Jets just can’t seem to escape the drama.

Jerry Jeudy was traded to the Cleveland Browns, who quickly locked him in with a 3-year, $58 million extension. In a thrilling game against his former team, the Broncos, Jeudy posted a career-high 235 yards on nine catches, including a touchdown. His performance also broke Terrell Owens’ 16-year-old record for most receiving yards in a game against a former team.

Woody Johnson's New York Jets on the brink of turning point

Forbes recently unveiled its annual list of the 400 wealthiest individuals in the U.S., with Woody Johnson securing a spot at #388, boasting a staggering $3.4 billion fortune. However, his massive wealth hasn't translated into sound decision-making for the New York Jets.

Despite the financial backing, the franchise has been in turmoil, parting ways with head coach Robert Saleh midway through the season, only to follow up with the dismissal of GM Joe Douglas weeks later. Adding to the chaos, the future of star quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains uncertain, as he has been cryptic about his commitment to the team moving forward. Rumors are also swirling around star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who may seek a trade if the franchise continues to falter.

In a surprising twist, the Jets have begun interviewing potential general managers, a process spearheaded by none other than Mike Tannenbaum, the same man they let go a few years ago. The franchise's uncertain future continues to raise questions about its leadership and direction.
