The Miami Dolphins are at a crossroads with two of their key players—one recovering from surgery and another facing an uncertain future in free agency. Tyreek Hill, the team’s explosive wide receiver, underwent wrist surgery after playing through an injury all season. Meanwhile, safety Jevon Holland is reading between the lines on social media, wondering if his time in Miami is coming to an end. As the offseason unfolds, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has weighed in on both situations, giving fans a mix of reassurance and uncertainty about what’s next.
Tyreek Hill's Road to Recovery
Tyreek Hill had surgery to fix ligament damage on his left wrist, but McDaniel made it clear—it wasn’t broken. Turns out, this injury actually goes way back to August 2024, when Hill tore a ligament during a joint practice with Washington. Instead of getting surgery then, he toughed it out all season, which probably played a role in him not hitting 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019.
The good news? Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says the star receiver will be ready for training camp, so Dolphins fans can breathe easy. While he won’t be catching passes for a while, he’s not just sitting around either. Hill will stay active by running and maintaining his conditioning while his wrist heals. The goal? Have him back at full speed by summer, just in time for camp. Clearly, Miami isn’t worried about any long-term setbacks—Hill is too important to their offense to be anything less than 100% when the season kicks off.
Jevon Holland's Free Agency Uncertainty
While Hill’s future in Miami is certain, Jevon Holland’s? Not so much. The talented safety, who has spent the past four seasons with the Dolphins, is a free agent this offseason, and he’s starting to pick up on some not-so-subtle signs from the team’s social media accounts.
On the
Breakin’ House Rules podcast, Holland pointed to a recent Valentine’s Day post where the Dolphins’ social media team created cards featuring different players with pun-filled captions. Holland wasn’t included in the post, and he’s taking it as a potential hint that Miami may be moving on.
“Transparently, seeing the Dolphins post things like the Valentine’s Day stuff or any type of edits and things like that. You can see guys that may not be here next year or may be somewhere else are just not in it,” Holland said. “So, I’m like following them on Instagram, right, and I’m not in none of this s--- no more. And I’m like, OK, they’ve kind of moved on.”
Holland, who has recorded 301 tackles, five forced fumbles, and five interceptions (including a pick-six) in his first four years, didn’t have his best season in 2024. Still, he’s in line for a solid payday, whether that’s in Miami or elsewhere. And while the uncertainty might be unsettling, Holland is choosing to embrace the moment.
“I’m excited. It’s already going into Year 5,” he said. “Just kind of crazy. I’m 24, about to be 25, it’s dope. It’s almost surreal, you know, stepping into another organization -- or same organization -- we still don’t know. But say I do go to another place, going from Oregon to Miami, it’s kind of like, I only know those two.”
