Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin encourages Joey Porter Jr. to push through struggles and focus on future growth

The Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is currently in news for showing his sensitive side to Joey Porter Jr., the 24 year old quarterback who joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2023 season of the National Football League. NFL recently posted a video where Porter was seen listening to Mike Tomlin’s advice very calmly. The young quarterback has not been having a good run on the field this season and maybe that motivated him more to listen to his coach’s words.
This incident was captured when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. While the team performed extremely well and everyone was soaking in the victory, Porter was not having a good time it seems. He has a total of 6 penalties in the match and one could clearly see this had shaken up Porter’s confidence. Looking at this, the coach Mike Tomlin approached the young quarterback and gave him a peace of mind so that Porter is ready to face the upcoming battles without losing faith in himself.

He told Porter that his day will come where he will be a great player for the Pittsburgh Steelers on the field but unfortunately today was not such a day and it is okay. According to Tomlin, what is more important is the ability to move on from a bad day, a bad match and look forward to the future. He said, “Sometimes that s--- just comes with being you, you know? Sometimes, I think you care more about the s--- than I do. You’re gonna be great, but you ain’t gonna be great today. You better push forward toward it today, but this s--- ain’t gonna happen as quickly as you’d like. That’s how s--- go.”
As soon as the clip of Mike Tomlin giving advice and reassuring the young quarterback went viral, fans started praising the man that Tomlin is. One user wrote on X, “Tomlin is a national treasure”, while others declared how he is just the best coach in the whole league - “Tomlin is the best coach in the league!”
As many started praising Mike Tomlin, many also took the time to look back to when the Pittsburgh Steelers were not being able to perform well in this season of the NFL and fans attacked Mike Tomlin for it by trolling and hating on him. Some even went to the extent where many suggested that the Pittsburgh Steelers should just fire him at this moment - one user wrote on X, “I remember when the Steelers was barely making the playoffs and they said he wasn’t a good coach.”
