“Wasn't a fit for me”: Jerry Jeudy expressed his inability to match his first-round talent in Denver Broncos

Cleveland Browns acquire Jerry Jeudy, former Denver Broncos wide receiver, who expresses frustration over limited opportunities in Denver. Jeudy, since pairing with Jameis Winston, has shown significant improvement, recording 24 catches and 379 yards in four games, hoping to fully showcase his potential with the new team.

Cleveland acquired wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, a 2020 first-round draft pick, despite his potential in Denver. Cleveland had the same results in Jeudy's first seven games of the season, but it is hard to imagine without injured quarterback play by the injured starter Deshaun Watson. He is wide receiver Jeudy who doubled his season totals in just four games with Jameis Winston, showing him how much work he can show for and the amount he wants to play for another team this season.

Jerry Jeudy reveals how much he wanted to play for another team

Jerry Jeudy, the No. 15 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, was traded to the Cleveland Browns after a lackluster four seasons with the Denver Broncos. On Monday, he spoke about his inability to live up to his first-round talent in Denver.

"My rookie year, I had a few drops. That was the biggest thing," he told ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. "But the years after that, I feel like I wasn't getting that many opportunities to showcase my talent with all these different OCs and different schemes and stuff like that. So I couldn't really show my abilities and show my route-running skills. It just wasn't a fit for me.”
"It just wasn't working over there," he added. "I felt like I was a way better player than they used me as. I wanted to go somewhere that would use me, see my full potential and take advantage of it.” Jeudy's 2022 season was his best with the Broncos, achieving career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, but not the expected level of production from a first-round selection.
Since Amari Cooper was traded to the Buffalo Bills and Deshaun Watson was injured, Jeudy has been a standout in Cleveland, recording 24 catches, 379 yards, and a touchdown in his last four games. That sort of production, stretched out over a full 17-game season, would equate to 102 receptions for 1,610 yards and four scores. It's what was expected of Jeudy in Denver, but he has found more of a home in Cleveland.

"As a receiver, to get in a groove, you've got to consistently get the ball," he told Oyefusi. "The last couple weeks, they've been giving me opportunities. ... Now that I'm getting opportunities, I'm getting into a groove and a rhythm. Now, it's only up from here.”

Jeudy started 44 Bronco games, 211 receptions, 3,053 yards, 11 touchdowns in his first four seasons. In 2024, he had 45 receptions, 645 yards, and two touchdowns for the Cleveland Browns. He gets a chance to show his former team how he's improved this season when the Browns travel west to take on the Broncos on Monday night.
