It’s no secret that the Saints are running out of options in their 2025 head coaching search. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is one of the few people who is being seriously considered for the role. On Monday, Saints reporter Nick Underhill shared New Orleans team officials had flown to Philadelphia to interview Moore, fresh off the Eagles' 55-23 NFC Championship Game win over the Commanders.
Kellen Moore Could Be The Best Pick For Saints HC Role
Moore has a successful track record as an offensive coordinator and he’s known for adapting his strategies to fit team strengths. The Saints appear confident in Moore's capabilities. If no one is hired in the next two weeks, Moore is likely to be appointed.
Philadelphia set a record for the most points in conference championship game history, achieving a dominant victory by rushing for seven touchdowns. On Tuesday, former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy became the third candidate to drop out of consideration, joining Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
The Saints had also shown interest in hiring former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who chose to take the head coach position with the Jets instead. Meanwhile, Moore is among three candidates who have been invited for a second interview with the Saints, along with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Giants assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
If hired, Moore would be the league's youngest head coach. Moore has been the offensive coordinator and play-caller for four top-10 scoring offenses, including three with the Cowboys (2019, 2021-22) and this season with the Eagles. Former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho recently opened up about Moore’s position.
“I’m happy Kellen Moore is getting interest from the Saints, but I hate that he might be distracted for the Super Bowl. Eagles fans, we’ve seen this story before with Jonathan Gannon and Super Bowl 57,” he said on a show recently.
