WWE Backlash is set to feature one of the most explosive main event title showdowns of all time.
Following the end of the WrestleMania season, WWE has now turned its attention to its next Premium Live Event, Backlash. The event is set to take place on May 10 at the Enterprise Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. The show will be headlined by a marquee match that will happen, possibly for the last time in WWE at a big stage. The match will see
John Cena defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against his iconic rival,
Randy Orton.
The Viper has outsmarted Cena since he dethroned Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to win the title. However, despite the deadly nature of Randy Orton, there is a huge possibility that Cena's plans of ruining wrestling might not come to an end anytime soon. Here are three reasons John Cena might not drop the WWE title to Randy Orton at WWE Backlash:
3. John Cena's historic reign might not end so soon
John Cena might have used some underhanded tactics to beat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania. However, that win laid an actual claim to be called the 'Greatest of All Time' as he broke Ric Flair's record and won his 17th World Championship. With Cena making history that has altered wrestling forever, it does not look like a possibility that WWE would decide to end the historic title reign just weeks after Cena won it. Therefore, it could mean that Randy Orton would leave his hometown empty-handed.
2. Gain more heat for his heel turn
The wrestling world was left in shock when John Cena turned his back on the WWE Universe and embraced the hate at the 2025 WWE Elimination Chamber. It is highly expected that Cena will be heavily booed at WWE Backlash in favor of the hometown hero, Randy Orton. This could be the perfect opportunity for him to once again resort to some unofficial tactics and defeat Orton in his territory to gain more heat as a heel moving forward.
1. Walk into his last match as Champion
John Cena is expected to remain the Undisputed WWE Champion heading into his last match, which will take place in December 2025. Continuing on his storyline to ruin wrestling and take the WWE title home with him, that direction is the strongest possibility at the moment. This could mean that Cena is walking away with the win over Randy Orton at WWE Backlash.
