John Charles Layfield, best known by his ring name John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL), is an influential figure in WWE. Prior to taking on the role as a color commentator, the Hall of Famer had been a formidable force in the ring as well, before retirement. Since then he had made several sporadic appearances as well as been an agent for another WWE superstar.

In a recent interview, JBL recalled how he had been an agent for Raw superstar Sami Zayn. Despite being a notable backstage role, JBL doesn’t seem too keen on taking it up once again.

“I love Sami, but I don’t want to be his agent,” asserts JBL

Speaking on the Huge Pop podcast, Layfield got candid about his time as Sami Zayn’s agent during the lockdown, and emphasized on how he never wants to do the backstage role again. When asked if he would consider returning as a full-time agent or producer, Layfield had this to say: “I don’t think so. I’ve told Sami Zayn this, so it’s not a secret. I was Sami Zayn’s agent one time and after that, I quit. I love Sami. He’s one of the best characters I’ve ever seen. I love Sami.”

“I was a guy who said, ‘How long you need? 12 minutes. Okay. What’s the finish?’ That’s all I needed. (Randy) Savage was just like Sami. I remember I called a match at WrestleMania where there was no crowd and Sami was in there with Daniel Bryan,” added Layfield.
He reiterated that he has nothing but love and admiration for Sami Zayn, but he wouldn’t return as an agent in the future. Commenting on how difficult the lack of crowd was to bear, he said, “Without the crowd, it sucked and was tough. Sami was screaming at one point. Every time Daniel kicked him. I thought, ‘This is brilliant.’ It made the match. He was crying at one point. What a great heel. I love Sami, but I don’t want to be his agent. That was my retirement ceremony.” (Transcription via Fightful)
JBL has recently made several on-screen appearances on many promotions including TNA and AAA. On August 17, 2024, Layfield walked with Nic Nemeth to the ring at the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's Triplemanía XXXII: Mexico City event. Most recently, he also appeared at Major League Wrestling's Fightland, Game Changer Wrestling's Homecoming, and TNA’s 2024 Emergence.
