Apple is reportedly planning to launch the updated 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models powered by the new M4 chip by early 2025. The new laptops are expected to retain the current design but offer significant performance improvements, longer battery life, and enhanced camera technology. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the updated MacBook Air models will also feature 16GB of RAM in their base configurations, which is a notable increase from the previous 8GB standard. These new models are expected to arrive between January and March 2025.

Apple M4 MacBook Air models: What to expect

One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming MacBook Air models is expected to be the introduction of a 12MP camera with Apple’s Center Stage technology.
Previously available only on select iPads and Macs with Studio Display, this feature leverages machine learning to keep users centred during video calls, even if they move. Its inclusion is expected to improve the MacBook Air’s appeal to users who frequently use tools like Zoom, FaceTime, and other video conferencing platforms.
According to Gurman, these MacBook Air models will debut before other spring product launches, including the new iPhone SE. Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone SE at its usual March or April event, heightening anticipation for the company’s 2025 product lineup.
Another report by MacRumors claims that the upcoming MacBook Air models are expected to feature three Thunderbolt 4 ports (up from two Thunderbolt 3 ports) and support up to two external displays, even with the lid open.
Apple may also introduce a nano-texture display option, currently available on the MacBook Pro and iMac, to reduce screen glare. However, this feature may also remain exclusive to the MacBook Pro models and may not trickle down to the Air models yet.
