Apple's newly announced iPhone 16 series is set to offer significantly faster wired charging speeds compared to its predecessors, according to recent certification documents. The China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) has revealed that all iPhone 16 models will support up to 45W fast charging via USB-C, marking a substantial improvement over the previous generation.
The certification, spotted by tipster ShrimpApplePro on X (formerly Twitter), shows the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max all capable of charging at 5-15 volts and 3 amps. This translates to a maximum charging capacity of 45W, which is approximately 50% faster than the iPhone 15 series that topped out at around 27-29W.
Interestingly, Apple has not officially commented on this upgrade during its "Its Glowtime" event or in its marketing materials. The company continues to advertise fast charging capabilities based on its 20W USB-C power adapter, stating that iPhones can reach a 50% charge in about 30 minutes.
While Apple remains tight-lipped about specific wired charging speeds, they did announce that MagSafe wireless charging can now deliver up to 25W with compatible power adapters. This combination of improved wired and wireless charging speeds should provide users with more flexibility and faster charging times overall.
The iPhone 16 series, unveiled on September 9, introduces several new features including the Camera Control button, upgraded A18 series chipsets, and enhanced camera systems. Apple's latest iOS 18 operating system also brings AI-powered features like web page summarization and an improved Siri experience.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 lineup are open, and shipments starts September 20.
