Elon Musk-owned social media platform — X is all set to change the blocking function of the platform. X (Formerly known as
Twitter) recently announced that the way blocking works will be updated "very soon," impacting how users interact with blocked accounts.
According to official posts from the X Engineering account (@XEng), the key change is that users will now be able to see public posts from accounts they have blocked. This means that if you block someone, you will no longer be able to see their profile or interact with their content directly. However, their public posts will still appear in your feed or search results.
“Today, block can be used by users to share and hide harmful or private information about those they’ve blocked. Users will be able to see if such behavior occurs with this update, allowing for greater transparency,” said the company in a post.
“Soon we’ll be launching a change to how the block function works. If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage (like, reply, repost, etc.),” adds the company.
It's important to note that X app has confirmed the following alongside the blocking update:
- Users will still be unable to interact with posts from blocked accounts (like, reply, etc.)
- Users can report any harassing or offensive content, regardless of whether the account is blocked.
The coming update to the blocking function on X app is sure to impact user experience. X app hasn't revealed a specific launch date for the updated blocking functionality. However, it's clear the change is imminent.
