The Sambhal mosque survey highlights urgent concerns over judicial interpretations of the Places of Worship Act, with the Supreme Court needing to ensure consistency, protect secularism, and address unequal treatment of religious sites across India
A civil judge's order on November 19, for a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal in west UP, followed by violence that claimed at least five lives, has unfortunately once again reignited public debate over the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
