Would Farooq Abdullah have helped with removal of Article 370?

In this excerpt from his latest book that has sparked a controversy, a former R&AW chief writes that former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah could have helped in the removal of the former state's special status.

In his latest book titled 'The Chief Minister and The Spy: An Unlikely Friendship', former Research and Analysis Wing chief AS Dulat writes about his dealings with former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah over nearly four decades. Dulat - who met Abdullah in the 1980s - documents his interactions with Abdullah and his memories of the National Conference chief's handling of various issues ranging from politics and terrorism to family.
In this excerpt from the chapter about the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, Dulat writes about the impact it had on Abdullah and why it would have been better for the central government to deal with him rather than arrest him.
