Summer vs skin: How humidity affects your hair and skin

Piyali Bhadra

Increased humidity affects

High humidity levels, especially during summer and monsoons in coastal regions, can make the skin more oily and prone to breakouts. Due to excessive sweating and clogged pores, our skin experiences more acne and inflammation issues, which can be cut down using lightweight supplements and gentle cleansing.

Facial infections

The dry-damp patch during summers, mainly in coastal areas, is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, which increases the risk of rashes and infections.

Dehydrated and dull skin

Despite the moisture available in the air, our skin becomes dehydrated. If you’re not drinking enough water, it can make your skin look dull and lifeless.

Keep minimal skincare products

Avoid using multiple layers of products to prevent skin buildup, and try to only work with a gentle cleanser, sunscreen, and a lightweight moisturiser.

Scalp infections

Just like our facial skin, our scalp is also susceptible to hazardous infections during the monsoon–summer belt because of wetness and sweat, which can lead to bacterial issues, leading to itching and dandruff.

More hair fall

If you’re living in coastal surroundings, you will experience hair fall more during the summer run, as humidity weakens the hair roots, caused by the constant dampness and moisture.
