Established in 1995, Prabhat Museum thrives on its inheritance from Prabhat Studio, and was opened to the public in 2008, before which visitation was reserved for VIPs and dignitaries. Housing a treasure of historical film memorabilia from Prabhat Studios—including photographs, posters, costumes, equipment, original contracts and musical instruments—the collection at the museum showcases a bygone era of Indian filmmaking. The wide range of film artefacts are a testament to the studio’s heyday, when it produced path-breaking works such as Kunku, Shejari, Sant Tukaram, Amrut Manthan, Duniya Na Mane, Aadmi, Padosi and Ram Shastri (all of which were a collaboration between some of the biggest directors, actors, script writers, music composers and technicians of the time). Although Prabhat Studios shut shop back in 1953, its legacy was continued by the establishment of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) which was set up on the same grounds, and continues to produce some of the biggest talent entering the Indian film industry today. One of the major attractions here, is the tutari (a traditional Indian trumpet), which was the symbol for Prabhat Studios and hangs at the entrance to the first floor of the building.
