Lady Gaga responds to Joker 2’s box office struggles: “Not everything resonates with everyone”

Lady Gaga has finally addressed the lukewarm reception of 'Joker: Folie a Deux,' acknowledging that not every project will strike a chord with audiences. Despite the high anticipation surrounding the sequel to the 2019 hit 'Joker,' the film underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews.
In a recent conversation with Elle, the singer-actress shared her perspective on the film’s reception and opened up about her upcoming album, 'Mayhem'. When asked about the disappointing response to 'Joker: Folie a Deux,' Gaga remained unfazed, stating, “Not everything is going to resonate with people, and that’s completely fine. As an artist, you have to be open to both praise and criticism. Sometimes things don’t land the way you expect, but that doesn’t mean you stop creating. The unpredictability is part of the journey.”
She further elaborated on how dealing with audience reactions both positive and negative can be challenging but is ultimately a necessary part of being an artist.
Shifting the focus to her music career, Gaga also spoke about her upcoming album, 'Mayhem,' which she described as a deeply personal project. The album, set to include 14 tracks, explores themes of self-acceptance and emotional vulnerability.
She shared how at many times she felt so embarrassed wile making this record and admitting that is difficult. "But through this album, I learned to embrace those emotions instead of hiding from them. Music became a way for me to confront my experiences and find empowerment in them,” she said.
Among the songs on the album are the previously released tracks 'Disease and Die With a Smile.'
Directed by Todd Phillips, 'Joker: Folie a Deux' continues the story of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix. This time, he is joined by Lady Gaga, who portrays Lee Quinzel, his enigmatic love interest. The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, and Harry Lawtey. While it didn’t achieve the same level of commercial success as its predecessor, Gaga’s performance has been a major talking point.
Despite the film’s struggles, Gaga remains focused on her artistry, proving that success is not always measured in box office numbers but in the willingness to take creative risks.
