Actor Oh Young Soo has made the decision to step down from his role in the upcoming film ‘Big Family’, creating a significant shift in the movie's cast. The announcement came on February 5, as a representative from Lotte Entertainment was quoted by Naver, "Oh Young Soo is stepping down from 'Big Family,' and Lee Soon Jae will take on the role in his place."
Directed by Yang Woo Seok, known for his work on acclaimed films such as ‘The Attorney’ and ‘Steel Rain’, ‘Big Family’ explores the heartwarming tale of cute grandchildren visiting the owner of a dumpling restaurant named Pyeong Man Ok.
The family's business faces jeopardy due to his son's decision to become a monk. The star-studded cast includes Kim Yun Seok, Lee Seung Gi, and Kang Han Na.
The unexpected change in casting follows a previous controversy involving Oh Young Soo in November 2022. Reports emerged accusing the actor of inappropriate physical contact with a woman in 2017. Oh Young Soo vehemently denied the charges during the prosecution's investigation, asserting, “I just held her hand to guide the way”. However, recent developments reveal that the prosecution has requested a one-year prison sentence for Oh Young Soo on charges of indecent assault. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 15.
Oh Young Soo gained recognition for his compelling performance in the survival series ‘Squid Game’. In the series, he portrayed the character Oh Il Nam, a man grappling with a brain tumor. His outstanding portrayal earned him the Best Supporting Actor award in the television division at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards in the United States in 2022.
