Young lifter Bharali has etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian male lifter to win a gold medal at the 2024 World Youth Championships. The 17-year-old displayed an outstanding performance, lifting a total of 296kg — 136kg in snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk — finishing 12kg ahead of his nearest competitor.
Bharali’s rise in the sport has been remarkable. In addition to his World Youth Championship triumph, he showcased his talent at the Commonwealth Championship, where he secured two gold medals and a bronze, further establishing himself as one of India's most promising young weightlifters. His consistent performances on the international stage have highlighted his potential to be a future star in Indian weightlifting.
Adding to his growing list of achievements, Bharali also competed at the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship, where he finished fourth. Though he narrowly missed out on a podium finish, his performance against some of the continent's best lifters was commendable.
