Cheryl Hines has spoken out about her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr following the recent controversy involving the politician and journalist Olivia Nuzzi. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Hines reflected on her relationship with Kennedy, talking about the strength of their connection.
“There has to be a connection,” Hines told Us Weekly at the Groundlings 50th Anniversary Event. “There’s, like, a connection that you look at your husband or your partner and all the crazy going on around you, or you look and check in, and it’s like, ‘OK, it’s going to be OK.’” She described how the couple often navigates challenges together, maintaining a sense of humour despite difficult situations.
Hines, 59, and Kennedy, 70, have been married since 2014. Discussing their long-lasting bond, Hines added, “Lots of emotions with rumours! But, it will all be in my book,” hinting at an upcoming memoir she’s writing, which she said will include personal insights.
The couple’s marriage has been under scrutiny due to recent allegations surrounding Kennedy and New York magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi. Reports suggest Nuzzi and Kennedy began a relationship after she interviewed him for a profile during his run as an independent presidential candidate. Claims of sexting, FaceTime interactions, and a heated breakup between Nuzzi and her fiancé, journalist Ryan Lizza, have fueled media speculation.
Kennedy has denied the allegations, stating that he met Nuzzi only once during the interview. Nuzzi’s camp, however, has alleged that Kennedy was manipulative, with Nuzzi describing the affair as “toxic” and regrettable. Lizza’s legal filing further detailed the fallout from the scandal, while Nuzzi has taken leave from her role at New York Magazine amid the ongoing controversy.
