CHANDIGARH: Announcing the expansion of Punjab's anti-drug campaign, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadavon Sunday issued what seemed like an ungettable goal for all district police heads and commissioners — that they will be personally held accountable if even a gram of any drug is found in their jurisdiction after the deadline of May 31.
Asserting that "action against drug traffickers will now be planned with set targets", the DGP said, "All SSPs and commissioners of police (CPs) will personally lead the campaign against drugs in their respective areas. If even a single gram of drugs is found in any area after the specified deadline, the officer concerned will be held personally accountable."
Yadav ordered all the SSPs and the CPs to prepare a comprehensive action plan for their areas. "This plan must include identifying drug networks, reaching their roots, and dismantling them. Each officer will have to submit their action plan to the police headquarters, and it will be reviewed periodically," the DGP directed. "If drugs are found in any area even after the set deadline, disciplinary action will be taken against the SSP or CP concerned. Officers who fulfil the expectations will be recognised and honoured at the state level," he said.
The DGP stated a drug-free Punjab was not just a goal, but a pledge to build a new consciousness, a healthy, and self-respecting Punjab.
