Bicholim: The incidents of throwing plastic bags with flowers offered in pooja into the ‘Ghothnicho vhal’ (Gothnim rivulet) near Gothneshwar temple at Bordem, Bicholim, are on the rise. Besides, people also leave idols and framed images of deities that they wish to discard from their houses by the banks of the rivulet. These items eventually land in the rivulet and choke the flow of the water.
Local councillor Aniket Chanekar said people are not following instructions despite repeated requests. He said he gets the area cleaned up weekly or fortnightly.
Chanekar called upon the public not to throw plastic bags and other waste into the rivulet as it puts an additional burden on the municipal workers to clean the rivulet.
Gopal Chodankar, a local, said, “The rivulet is not a waste dumping site. People should stop this practice.”
