In a recent update,
Kolkata Metro is all set to launch an upgrade to its ticketing system starting February 28. This will allow passengers to purchase up to seven QR-based paper tickets in a single transaction. This new change significantly enhances the current system, where only one ticket could be bought at a time. The update aims to streamline the ticket-buying process, reduce long queues, and make commuting faster and more convenient for passengers.
Earlier, the limitation of buying just one QR ticket per transaction often used to delay and overcrowd ticket counters. The peak hours were the worst. With the new rule, commuters will be able to purchase multiple tickets in one go, which is expected to save time and minimize unnecessary waiting. This change is particularly beneficial for those traveling in groups or for regular commuters who need multiple tickets.
The new ticketing system will be available across most metro lines except the Purple Line (Joka-Majerhat). It will apply on the following routes:
Blue Line (Dakshineswar to New Garia)
Orange Line (New Garia to Ruby Crossing)
Green Line (Howrah Maidan to Esplanade)
However, passengers on the Purple Line will still need to adhere to the old system for now, as it is not included in this update.
This improvement is part of Kolkata Metro's ongoing efforts to enhance passenger convenience and efficiency. By enabling multiple ticket purchases in a single transaction, the metro aims to reduce congestion at ticket counters and provide a smoother experience for commuters. The change is expected to make daily metro travel more efficient and less time-consuming.
Overall, this ticketing upgrade marks a significant step towards modernizing the Kolkata Metro. The ability to buy multiple tickets at once will not only make the process faster but also help ease the daily commuting challenges faced by many passengers.
