Ponda: Fish vendors at the Ponda municipality market on Thursday opposed the civic body’s decision to shift them to a new place, which the vendors say lacks proper facilities.
The fish market building is old and dilapidated, so the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) plans to move the vendors to the market complex’s basement.
The fish market was constructed between the late 1980s and the early 1990s, and the PMC aims to demolish the structure before it collapses.
The PMC has even made a space ready just outside the fish market. However, the site does not have proper water arrangements to maintain hygiene, some vendors have told municipal officers.
Later on Thursday, a group of vendors met PMC chairperson Anand Naik and discussed the problem. Naik has assured them that he would convene a council meeting on Friday to find a solution.
