Lucknow: The NER Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has approved the electronic interlocking system at Gorakhpur Junction station, along with the newly constructed third line linking Gorakhpur Junction and Gorakhpur Cantt.
NER Lucknow Division completed the new 3.5 km long, 25,000-volt AC electrified third rail line between Gorakhpur Junction and Gorakhpur Cantt stations to upgrade passenger amenities and boost operational efficiency.
CRS Pranjeev Saxena along with chief administrative officer (construction) Abhay Kumar Gupta, chief electrical engineer (construction) OP Singh, DRM Gaurav Agarwal, and additional railway officials inspected the work at Gorakhpur Junction and Gorakhpur Cantt.
At Gorakhpur Junction, the CRS examined the AI-enabled electronic interlocking panel, station superintendent's office, safety records, yard configuration, station protocols, integrated power supply and battery systems. Subsequently, he conducted a thorough safety assessment of points, crossings, curves, and bridges on the Gorakhpur Station-Gorakhpur Cantt route using a motor trolley.
The inspection at Gorakhpur Cantt station included evaluation of signalling systems, ballast conditions, platform clearance, electronic interlocking, battery installations, relay room, and staff safety preparedness. The CRS also evaluated railway personnel's knowledge of safety procedures for train operations.Inspection concluded with a successful speed test on the newly electrified third rail line using a special train.
