Forestry, horticulture & agri univs to come up in Gorakhpur: CM Yogi

Gorakhpur: On the 75th foundation day of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that a forestry and horticulture university would be established in Gorakhpur, along with a new agriculture and technology university in neighboring Kushinagar.
He called for the university to devise a comprehensive 25-year roadmap aiming for global recognition and emphasised that the university must focus on healthy competition and strategic specialisation to secure a notable global ranking.
Congratulating the university on its impressive 75-year journey, Yogi urged the academic community to chart a course for the next 25 years, focusing particularly on achieving excellence in specific fields. He highlighted that in today's competitive world, success in every area was impossible; instead, universities must choose niches in which they can excel. "A clear, well-executed plan for the next quarter-century will help the university rise to global prominence," he said.
In a nod to the university's humble beginnings in 1950, CM Yogi acknowledged the contributions of local leaders and scholars who made establishment of the university possible despite limited resources. He paid tribute to Mahant Digvijaynath, who played a pivotal role in the university's formation, and other key figures who helped shape its legacy.
The CM also highlighted importance of preserving the university's 75-year history, including its publications, research and innovations. With the advent of digital technology, invaluable resources should be archived for future generations. During the ceremony, the CM laid foundation stone for the Mahant Digvijaynath Auditorium and the Diamond Jubilee Gate, which will enhance the university's infrastructure. He also launched a commemorative souvenir, a postal stamp, and a university documentary.
The event concluded with the honoring of distinguished alumni, including renowned scholars, govt officials and others who have contributed significantly to various fields.
