Hollywood star
Rebel Wilson has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her love story with wife Ramona Agruma. While the couple now enjoy a joyful and united family life, things weren’t always easy – especially when it came to family acceptance.
The actress, best known for her roles in films like 'Pitch Perfect' and 'Senior Year', recently spoke about the emotional journey during an appearance on SiriusXM Hits1’s Ben +1 show.
Rebel’s Family Said Yes — But Not Everyone DidWilson revealed that her own family were supportive from the beginning when she shared news of her relationship with Ramona Agruma. But for Ramona’s side, things were more complicated.
As Wilson shared on Ben +1, “my family was very accepting of the relationship,” but when it came to now-wife Agruma, “at first her family wasn't,” reported People magazine.
This cultural hesitation wasn’t permanent, though, and time seemed to soften the situation. “It just took them a little bit of time,” the 'Pitch Perfect' star added.
“I think some people from some cultures — because it was the same-sex wedding, I guess. They just needed a little bit of time, and now you wouldn't even notice that anything had happened previously.”
From Uncertainty to a Dream WeddingIn the end, love won. Rebel and Ramona tied the knot in September 2024, celebrating their union in a beautiful ceremony in Italy. And what’s more, Ramona’s once-hesitant family showed up in full support.
Wilson shared joyfully, “all of (Agruma's) beautiful family came” to their wedding in Italy last autumn, “and it's almost like there wasn't any drama.”
The romantic Italian wedding marked a milestone for the couple who first went public with their relationship in June 2022. At the time, Wilson posted a sweet photo on Instagram, captioned, “I thought I was searching for a
Disney Prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove.”
Building a Life and Family TogetherSince making their relationship public, Wilson and Agruma have taken several big steps together — including parenting. The actress became a mum in November 2022 when she welcomed her daughter Royce via surrogate. Ramona has been right there beside her as they raise their now two-year-old child.
Today, the couple are living a happy, blended life — with both sides of the family now involved and present. “It is a really happy ending, and we've just had both Ramona's parents come and stay with us at our new house and stuff, so yeah. It was never feuding,” Wilson said.
Time Heals — And That’s OKRebel didn’t shy away from acknowledging that the path to this harmony took patience. “It took them time, which is fair enough,” she said. “They're from a different culture, but all worked out in the end, which I think is a good message.”
