By-elections for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh have been postponed due to concerns from several political parties about low voter turnout during the upcoming festivals. Originally set for November 13, the voting will now take place on November 20, while the date for counting votes remains unchanged on November 23. Additional chief electoral officer Chandrashekhar stated that the decision to change the election date was made in response to requests from multiple political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, and Rashtriya Lok Dal, as well as various social organizations.

The by-election was necessitated following the death of sitting MLC Shaik Saabji in a road accident in last December. Saabji of CPI (M) affiliated teachers unition-UTF actually had term till 2027 as he got elected to the upper house in 2021. However, he died two years after his election.

In a surprising turn of events on Monday, just minutes before the deadline to withdraw election papers, Congress party and MVA candidate Madhurima Raje Chhatrapati pulled her nomination for the Kolhapur North Assembly constituency. Initially, former KMC Corporator Rajesh Latkar had been nominated by the Congress, but the party replaced him with Chhatrapati within 24 hours, sparking dissatisfaction. Latkar then filed his nomination as an independent candidate, prompting Congress leaders to urge him to withdraw his papers.

He said that he would campaign for the party.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and his allies in the MVA, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, welcomed the Election Commission's directive to the Maharashtra government to immediately transfer DGP Rashmi Shukla. This decision came after complaints from political parties, with the EC instructing the Maharashtra chief secretary to hand over Shukla's responsibilities to the next senior-most IPS officer. Additionally, the chief secretary was tasked with submitting a panel of three IPS officers for DGP appointment by Tuesday afternoon. In the meantime, the Mumbai police commissioner has been asked to take on the additional charge of the position. Maharashtra is set to hold elections on November 20.

BJP leader Gopal Shetty announced on Monday that he is withdrawing his candidature as an independent for Maharashtra's Borivali Assembly seat. Shetty, a two-time MP from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, had previously rebelled against the BJP after the party chose Sanjay Upadhyay as its candidate for the seat.

"Whether we will contest on 99 seats or 105 seats, this isn't our motive. We are Maha Vikas Aghadi and we will fight as Maha Vikas Aghadi. By today evening, the whole picture will become clear," said Sanjay Raut.

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange announced on Monday that he will not support any candidate or party in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.Previously, Jarange had plans to endorse or oppose candidates in specific constituencies but has now reversed his decision.Speaking in Antarwali Sarathi village, Jange stated, "After much deliberation, I have decided not to field any candidate in the state. The Maratha community will decide on its own whom to defeat and whom to elect. I have no affiliation to or support for any candidate or political party."

Former BJP MP Gopal Shetty has announced to take back his nomination from Boriwali seat. He has filed nomination against BJP’s official candidate Sanjay Upadhyay from Boriwali seat.

Mandal Murmu, who had previously signed Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's nomination for the Barhait assembly constituency, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. Murmu announced that he would work on addressing the demographic changes in Santhal Pargana.

"There was a huge conspiracy which was thwarted by us. The conspiracy was to cancel nomination of Hemant Soren - that what happened in Surat during Lok Sabha elections, the proposer being kidnapped, brought to their side, made to give statement that they did not sign. We received information on time that a few people and a 'middleman' MP are working to get this done. So, we went for damage control. We can see a weakness of the BJP. If they can't defeat someone politically, they hatch conspiracy against them. But Hemant Soren decided to fight but not to cow down. Anil Kaushik, the former Navi Mumbai Congress president, resigned and joined BJP along with his supporters, just ahead of the assembly polls. While political pundits suggest this may weaken the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, core Congress members claim his departure could actually fortify the party.

BJP's manifesto for Jharkhand polls, emphasized by Home Minister Amit Shah, focuses on countering infiltration and preventing tribal consolidation in favor of CM Hemant Soren. The manifesto highlights themes of 'land, daughter, bread', and promises to address displacement, exam paper leaks, and implement the Uniform Civil Code with tribal exemptions.

Congress criticized BJP for delaying the release of Rs 1.4 lakh crore in coal royalties and other funds to Jharkhand, accusing the party of punishing the state for its 2019 assembly election results. The party also condemned the Maharashtra BJP government for failing to fulfill promises to farmers, including a vital water grid project for Marathwada.

MNS, attempting to reassert itself in Mumbai's political landscape, is contesting 25 of 36 seats following a rightward shift in strategy. The party aims to revive its base despite no candidates against seven senior BJP leaders, signaling tactical candidacies in their first city election since 2019.

On Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledged his and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's commitment to establishing a medical college in Wayanad, where she is the UDF candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll. Speaking at a public meeting in Areekode, located in the neighboring Malappuram district, the former Wayanad MP expressed his difficulty in leaving the constituency, noting the broad support he received from residents across party lines during challenging times.

"Some commitments that I have made to you. Commitment to medical college... commitment of night traffic. I guarantee you, your new MP is going to be committed to doing these things. And also, your old MP is also going to be committed. We will personally build one of the best medical colleges in the country in this constituency," he said.

"Neither the UCC nor the NRC will be implemented here. Jharkhand will rely solely on the Chotanagpur Tenancy and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Acts. These people (the BJP) are spewing venom and do not care about tribals, natives, Dalits, or backward communities," Soren said at a rally in Garhwa.

"It is time to oust the anti-Dalit, anti-tribal, anti-poor, and anti-youth Hemant government from Jharkhand, which is fuelling Naxalism for petty political gains," he said.

"We uprooted the menace from Jharkhand during the last five years, and now the Prime Minister Modi-led Centre will wipe out Naxalism from India by March 2026," he added.

"The power to change your lives, to build your future lies in your hands. Every single vote of yours is a symbol of that change. I owe responsibility to every single one of you. I feel it's my duty to come to you and understand your problems, to help you build a stronger future for yourselves. "For the backward society, BJP has decided that 27% reservation will be given without reducing anyone's reservation. Under the 'Gogo Didi Yojana', Rs 2,100 will be deposited every month in the account of every sister. BJP will provide unemployment allowance of Rs 2,000 to every youth and will also provide government jobs to around 3 lakh youth in a single year," he said.

The corrupt Chief Minister has to be changed, revenge has to be taken for the atrocities committed against the backward society. "I am the candidate of Nationalist Congress Party, I am with Ajit Pawar, he has made me a candidate, now Mahayuti alliance people, whether from Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena, they are fighting the elections against me and my fight is with them," he told ANI.

"There is a very tough competition in Maharashtra. We cannot predict who will get the majority. On both sides, there is an alliance of 3 parties. Amit Shah unveiled the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto, titled 'Sankalp Patra,' ahead of the Jharkhand assembly elections. Shah highlighted the BJP's commitment to safeguarding Jharkhand’s identity, land, and women's safety against perceived threats, contrasting this vision with what he described as the opposition's negligence.

"They (JMM-Congress) are spreading rumours that the implementation of UCC will end the law and culture of the tribals. Today I am saying here that UCC will be implemented in Jharkhand, but it will not be implemented on tribals. Modi government will protect the culture of tribals and their laws," he said addressing a rally in the poll bound state.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday emphasised that the primary struggle in the country today is to protect and preserve the Constitution. He said the Constitution of the country was not written with hatred, but with humility and love.

"The main fight in the country today, that is taking place, is the fight for the Constitution of our country. The protection that we get, the greatness of our country, all emerged from the Constitution," the Lok Sabha MP said while addressing a corner meeting in Mananthavady here as part of the campaign for his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Priyanka is the Congress candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll.

"The Constitution was not written with anger or with hatred. It was written by the people who fought the British, the people who had suffered, who spent years and years and years in jail. And they wrote the Constitution with humility, with love and with affection," he said.

"Population of Adivasis in the entire Jharkhand is decreasing because of infiltration from Bangladesh. Can this Hemant Soren government stop this?
