Goa becomes the country’s first state to implement a QR code-based system for tourists traveling with vehicles. Reports add that this initiative will significantly improve the traffic movement within the coastal paradise. The initiative aims to reduce unnecessary road checks and enhance the overall experience for visitors.
Once a tourist's vehicle documentation has been verified, this cutting-edge technology creates a QR code and sends it via SMS. Because this code is valid for 12 hours, travellers can move around freely without having their documents examined again. If tourists are stopped by traffic officials again, they can provide the QR code, which, when scanned, confirms that all necessary vehicle documentation has already been reviewed and authorised.
So far, Goa police have issued 4,000 QR codes to tourists, reducing the inconvenience of frequent document verification. The initiative is part of the Quick Pass mobile application developed by the Goa police to enhance traffic compliance and minimize disturbances for motorists.

8 most Instagrammable spots to visit in MarchSpeaking about the innovation, crime branch SP Rahul Gupta told TOI, “Goa police have introduced the Quick Pass mobile application for traffic officials, designed to streamline traffic compliance and reduce inconvenience for motorists. This innovative app generates a QR code sent as an SMS to rule-abiding commuters. It is valid for 12 hours.”
He further elaborated, “If the rider is stopped again for routine checks, he can show this QR code. With this initiative, document verification becomes hassle-free, ensuring smoother movement of vehicles while maintaining compliance with traffic regulations.”
Additionally, the app has sophisticated features like geotagging, traffic check hotspot mapping, and real-time traffic data analysis. These tools will enable senior officials to strategically plan traffic management, thereby improving road safety and efficiency.
