Mahakumbh 2025: 4 Guinness World Record attempts set to make history!
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, since it started, has been in the headlines for multiple reasons. It's not merely the world's largest spiritual gathering, but is also on track to create multiple Guinness World Records. The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is coordinating efforts to ensure that the grand event is marked by record-breaking achievements while promoting cleanliness, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

Guinness World Record initiatives at Mahakumbh 2025

To secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, the Mahakumbh organizers have launched four ambitious initiatives:
1. Sanitation drive with 15,000 workers: To keep the ghats clean and hygienic, a huge group of 15,000 sanitation workers is sweeping the streets collectively, breaking the record for the biggest street-cleaning campaign in history.
2. Mass water cleanup: At the Triveni Sangam, which is the sacred meeting point of the Yamuna, Ganga, and the fabled Saraswati rivers, a team of 300 labourers is involved in cleaning the water stream. The dedication to maintaining the cleanliness of India's sacred rivers is demonstrated by this record-breaking endeavour.
3. Largest e-rickshaw parade: To encourage sustainable development and environmentally friendly transportation, a spectacular parade of 1,000 e-rickshaws is taking place at the Mahakumbh.
4. Handprint painting mega event: One of the biggest art initiatives of its type, 10,000 people are taking part in a handprint painting initiative at the Ganga Pandal in just eight hours, showcasing their creativity and culture.

As per the reports, the Guinness World Records team is collaborating with the Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh administration to ensure all rules are in place and are adhered to. Referring to this, Akansha Rana, the Kumbh's Officer on Special Duty (OSD), added that the sanitation workers are already creating history with the river-cleaning project. She also informed that raising awareness about the importance of keeping rivers and other bodies of water clean is the key objective.

500 million devotees and counting

The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 has already set another unprecedented record—more than 500 million devotees have taken a holy dip at Triveni Sangam since the event began on January 13, 2025 (Paush Purnima). The Mahakumbh is the biggest religious assembly in human history, with an incredible number that exceeds the populations of major nations like Brazil, Russia, and the United States.
