John Cena's greatest Survivor Series matches of all time: Awesome Truth, Kurt Angle, more

John Cena has participated in several memorable Survivor Series matches despite not being a frequent participant. Notable bouts include triple-threat matches against Michaels and Triple H (2009) and Chris Jericho (2008), a tag team match with The Rock (2011), and intense encounters with CM Punk and Ryback (2012), and Kurt Angle (2005).

Over the years, John Cena has come up with some really amazing matches, irrespective of the show. With Survivor Series coming up close, and the face of the place about to hang his boots, it’s worth taking a peak at some of his best matches especially at the said Premium Live Event.
While Cena has been a face that runs the company, he’s not been a part of a lot of Survivor Series events. And the ones that he’s been a part of, not all have seen extremely good matches. Having said that, here are some of the best Survivor Series matches that Cena has been a part of in the WWE.

5 Best matches that John Cena was a part of

1) Cena vs Michaels vs Triple H (2009)


This match was unique because two members of D Generation X went up against John Cena. It was scheduled to be a slug fest where Cena was supposed to be beaten to pulp, but the match ended up very differently.

Michaels kicked Triple H to start things off, who later on threw the Heartbreak Kid into a table at the end to score his revenge. It was an extremely entertaining match, but John Cena came up on top, after securing the pin by hitting Michaels with an Attitude Adjustment on an already flattened Triple H.

2) Awesome Truth (2011)


The team of Miz and R-Truth have been a staple on a lot of PLEs over the years. However, the Survivor Series in 2011 was extremely entertaining because this team went up against
The Rock and John Cena.

The outcome of the match was already predetermined when The Rock and John Cena teamed up because you don’t get to see that very often. However, what made things all the more interesting was once the match ended and the duo had secured the win, The People’s Champ made a move and attacked an unexpecting John Cena.

3) Chris Jericho (2008)


This match saw the Doctor of Thugonomics win his first World Heavyweight Championship in the company. Cena was away from the ring for three months with a herniated disc, but following a successful surgery, he made his way back to the ring once again, to face Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship.

At this point, Cena had already won his WWE Championship but never conquered the Heavyweight Championship before. However, following the match, he finally got a pin over the Lionheart to secure his first ever title victory which he went on to defend successfully over the next year.

4) CM Punk and Ryback (2012)


In this match, Ryback and Cena were fighting against CM Punk to capture his Heavyweight title in a triple-threat match. Although Punk won the match, it was an interesting match up because the Shield intervened.

Apart from that intervention, Cena was amazing throughout the entire bout and both him and Ryback had almost snatched the belt away from Punk on multiple occasions.

5) Kurt Angle (2005)


The feud between Kurt Angle and John Cena was quite an interesting one. In fact, John Cena was the first one to come out and challenge Kurt Angle when he had issued an open challenge in June 2002.

Fast forward to 2005, Angle was trying to take the WWE Championship from him. This match during Survivor Series 2005 involved a lot of different spots involving referees and high flying action. Despite his effort and scummy ways, Cena dominated Angle to retain the title.
