Instagram users complain of seeing disturbing and inappropriate content

Many Instagram users around the world are reportedly seeing violent and inappropriate content in their feeds. Taking to microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), many have complained of their feeds showing such contents even to those who have turned on the Sensitive Content Control setting. “Is anyone else noticing this on Instagram? My Reels feed suddenly started showing violent videos for no reason. Is this a glitch or some change in the algorithm?,”one user wrote in an X post.
Another user wrote, “What’s going on with Instagram? Every few scrolls, I see violent and sensitive content!” “Has anyone of you noticed that Instagram is showing you weird reels or content today?,” said a third. A fourth user said “i swear i’ve seen more gore videos on instagram reels today than on twitter… just me?”.









One possible reason could be a change in Instagram’s algorithm. The latest update may have mistakenly prioritized certain posts, leading to an increase in violent and sensitive content, as reported by Vocal Media.
Another possibility could be a bug in Instagram’s content moderation system could be the cause. According to Vocal Media, Instagram uses AI to scan posts for sensitive content and limit their visibility. If the system malfunctions, it might accidentally show such content to more users. This could be what happened today.
Meta has not released an official statement yet.
