Rags-to-riches: Did you know Nawazuddin Siddiqui stole sugarcanes and worked as a security guard in his struggling days?

There are very few actors who have gone through the kind of challenges that Nawazuddin Siddiqui has in his career. From doing blink and miss roles in films like ‘Sarfarosh’ and ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ to headlining films like ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur 2’ & ‘Manto’ and working with superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, the actor has done it all. Nawaz has often talked about the hardships that he has faced to get to where he is now in his interviews. He is known to have come from humble origins and used to live a mundane lifestyle before he became a star. Talking about the things that he did as a child, Nawaz had once revealed that he did not own fancy toys and played with marbles on the street. In one of the interviews, he also confessed to stealing sugarcanes from trucks that transported him through his village and ate them. The ‘Kahaani’ actor was reportedly employed as a chemist in Vadodara before he decided to join the National School of Drama. While studying at the prestigious institute, he also worked as a security guard in Delhi to be able to afford the fees. In one of his recent interviews with ETimes, Nawaz recalled his ‘junior artist days and said ‘I know how it feels to be a junior artist because I too was a struggling actor at some point in my life. I’ve been with junior artistes. I know the struggles, I know there insecurities, their dreams and their complexities. I know the fear of not knowing what your next meal would be like.’ Next up, Nawazudding Siddiqui is all set to appear in ‘Haddi’ wherein he will be seen playing a distinct character of a transgender woman.
