After dowry case against man, wife’s body found in well, lover held for murder
Agra: Over two months after a man alleged that his daughter went missing following harassment by her husband over dowry, Agra police on Wednesday arrested her lover for allegedly murdering her and dumping her body in a well.
Police said a case was initially registered against Seti, a daily wage labourer, under BNS sections 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives towards a married woman), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, after Sidhari Lal reported his daughter missing on Feb 4.
During the investigation, police found that the 33-year-old woman had eloped with her lover, Bhimsen Yadav, 35, a resident of Tajganj. Yadav was arrested in Agra and confessed to strangling the woman on March 15 and dumping her body in a well in Tajganj.
Police said the motive appeared to be the woman's repeated demands for marriage, which "frustrated" Yadav. Her body was later recovered from the well after Yadav revealed its location.
DCP (city), Sonam Kumar, said, "The body has been sent for a post-mortem exam. Sections of murder will be added in the case against Yadav once the report confirms the precise cause of death."
