Agra: A senior functionary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP, was arrested after he allegedly shot a man during a dispute in Aligarh on Thursday night, police said on Friday.
The incident took place at Sabzi Bazar, under the Gandhi Park police station limits, when the accused, Yash Goyal, 30, who serves as mandal president of BJYM, got into a heated argument with one Shivam Balmiki, in his late 20s, over an old enmity. In the confrontation that followed, Goyal allegedly opened fire, injuring Balmiki in the shoulder.
Upon receiving information, police reached the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. A case of attempted murder has been registered against Goya. DSP Rajiv Dwivedi said, "The victim is a history-sheeter. A thorough investigation is underway, and action will be taken accordingly."
Gandhi Park SHO, Shiv Prasad Singh, said, "A case under sections of BNS 109 (attempt to murder), 115-2 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insults intended to provoke a breach), and SC/ST Act, has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother Ankush."
