Gandhinagar: Earlier, Gujarat's medal tally in sports was in single digits. Within two years, it got 808 medals at the national level and 104 at international level, said Harsh Sanghavi, minister of state for home, industries, transport, youth and sports.
The notion of sports as a profession is flourishing in Gujarat, he said, adding that the state govt is working to develop Gujarat, particularly Ahmedabad, as a sporting hub in preparation for the Olympics.
Various schemes and the Olympic readiness programme are swiftly advancing sporting activities in the state, he said, in response to deliberations on the demands of the department of sports, youth, and cultural activities.
Sanghavi emphasised that youth are the nation's future. "The state govt is devoted to fostering interest in sports amongst Gujarat's youth, enhancing their prowess, bolstering their sportsmanship, and making them dynamic, brilliant, and robust. Under the initiative of ‘Ramshe Gujarat, Jeetshe Gujarat' (Gujarat will play, Gujarat will win), the state has achieved remarkable progress in sports over the past two years," he said.
