NEW DELHI: A man allegedly hacked his daughter-in-law to death with an axe in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Hathipur Kuria village within Kant police station jurisdiction on Tuesday, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi.
According to police reports, the suspect Rajpal Satya, who allegedly killed his daughter-in-law Sumitra (30), remains at large. Authorities have assembled a team to apprehend him.
Officials arrived at the scene after receiving notification about the occurrence on Wednesday morning.
SP Dwivedi, citing initial investigation findings and local residents' accounts, stated that the accused was a known alcoholic who likely engaged in a dispute with the victim.
He reportedly attacked her with an axe from the household during a moment of anger, causing her death.
The victim's spouse, who works as a lorry driver, was not present at home when the incident took place.
Police officials confirmed that the body has been dispatched for post-mortem examination and they have retrieved the murder weapon. They have registered a case and continue their investigation into the matter.
