SAMBHAL: Security personnel remain stationed in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, for the third straight day on Wednesday following unrest triggered by an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspection.
Police forces are positioned near the historic Shahi Jama Masjid from the Mughal period, according to official sources.
Sambhal Violence Live Updates:
The violent confrontation, which began with stone throwing during the survey on November 24, resulted in four fatalities and numerous injuries amongst officials and residents.
Whilst most restrictions have been removed as calm returns to the area, Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar confirmed that internet services remain suspended.
Police reports indicate that authorities have detained 27 individuals (25 males and 2 females) and registered seven First Information Reports (FIRs) in relation to the disturbance.
"After the Sunday incident that took place in Sambhal district, the police had called for a precautionary internet shutdown, which continues. All other things have been restored to normalcy," said superintendent of police (SP) Krishan Kumar.

"The police have processed all the CCTV footage of the people involved in the incident. More than 100 people have been identified. They will soon be apprehended by the police. In the last 24 hours, 27 people have been arrested, out of which 25 are men and 2 are women. Sambhal MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq has been issued a notice under Section 168 of the BNS on November 23," he added.
The security detail positioned near the mosque is equipped with communication devices, protective gear, illumination tools, weapons, access control barriers and screening equipment to enforce local security protocols.
On Tuesday, Moradabad divisional commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh announced that authorities have detained 27 individuals and registered seven FIRs following disturbances and stone-throwing incidents related to the Archaeological Survey of India's examination of the district's Mughal-era mosque.
Commissioner Singh advised all community members to avoid making unsubstantiated claims.
On Monday, Singh disclosed that the accused parties include a Samajwadi Party MP and a local MLA's son, whilst confirming that order has been restored at the incident site and investigations continue.
During an earlier joint media briefing, Sambhal SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi stated that legal action has been initiated against approximately 800 individuals following the unrest.
SP Bishnoi confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Zia Ur Rehman Barq and Sohail Iqbal, for allegedly provoking crowd violence.
Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq has contested accusations of inciting the Sambhal disturbances over the mosque inspection.
He refuted the charges, suggesting a conspiracy by Uttar Pradesh police administration and maintaining his innocence by stating he was outside the state when the violence occurred.
The inspection was conducted as part of judicial proceedings following senior advocate Vishnu Shanker Jain's petition asserting the mosque's original status as a temple.
A comparable inspection occurred on November 19, supervised by local authorities and mosque committee representatives.
