BAREILLY: In a sensational incident, a seven-member Bareilly police team, led by a station officer (SO), came under attack while they were conducting a raid in Meerut as locals managed to free a wanted criminal on Tuesday morning. The team members also sustained injuries.
Incident was reported in Ramraj locality under Behsuma police station. The injured cops were later rescued by Meerut police and were admitted in various hospitals.
A case has been lodged against 160 unidentified miscreants.
As per police, a seven-member police team, lead by SO (Sirauli), Gajendra Tyagi, on a tip-off conducted raid at the hideout of a wanted criminal in Ramraj locality. Cops conducted raid early on Tuesday morning and nabbed the criminal Pathan alias Khan from the spot. Immediately, the locals, who support of Pathan, started pelting stones on cops.
The cops lost the grip on Pathan after someone from the mob allegedly opened fired.
On information cops from Behsuma police station too rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the cops on duty though they too faced stiff resistance. Later Meerut police had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation though the wanted criminal managed to flee. The police team sustained injuries.
It may be recalled that wanted criminal Pathan alias Khan Son of Farooq resident of Bhojipura dodged cops on March 16, 2015 while he was on his way back to city after appearing in district court in Udham Singh Nagar. Since then police has been on a lookout for him with an award of Rs 15,000 on his head. As per police, Pathan has 40 cases against him and is involved in heinous crimes including murder, loot and dacoity.
Confirming reports superintendent of police (rural) Brijesh Srivastava said, “A team of seven policemen, comprising three sub-inspectors and four constables sustained injuries, while they were conducting raid in Ramraj locality. A case against unidentified locals had been lodged in concerned police station and investigations are on.”
