Bengaluru: Three habitual bike thieves were arrested recently and 25 two-wheelers, valued at Rs 35 lakh, recovered from them.
The accused are Varun Kumar, 24, and Mohammed Jain, 24, both residents of JC Nagar, and their associate Manjunath, 26, from Haveri district. According to Mahadevapura police, Varun and Mohammed stole a two-wheeler from Udhayanagar, Mahadevapura, in the early hours of March 6, after the owner had parked it outside his home.
They were caught red-handed near Hope Farm Road on April 16. During interrogation, they are said to have confessed to selling 12 stolen vehicles to Manjunath, who in turn sold them in rural areas without proper documentation.
The remaining stolen two-wheelers, parked on a piece of land in Singayyanapalya, were recovered on April 22. So far, the owners of 22 recovered vehicles have been identified, and efforts are on to trace the remaining three owners.
Varun and Mohammed targeted vehicles across Mahadevapura, HSR Layout, Whitefield, HAL, JP Nagar, Subramanyanagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Varthur, Anekal, Marathahalli, Bagalur, Mysuru, and other locations. Despite previous arrests, they continued stealing after being released on bail, typically breaking the hand locks of motorcycles parked on the roadside at night.
